For this stage

Trying to conceive

Trying for a baby , actively or after a while.

Fertile window, BBT, cervical mucus, ovulation + pregnancy tests.

What we track for you

  • Cycle length and ovulation date
  • BBT and cervical mucus
  • LH tests, sex timing
  • Early pregnancy symptoms

Red flags we surface

  • · 12+ months trying under 35 (6+ over 35)
  • · Cycles outside 21-35 days
  • · Severe pelvic pain

When any of these show up across your logs, you get a prompt and the GPS opens with the right questions ready.

What's happening

Trying for a baby is a different kind of cycle tracking — sharper, hopeful, sometimes hard. Here's the playbook.

Most healthy couples conceive within 12 months (6 if over 35). Knowing your fertile window — the 5 days before ovulation plus the day of — is the single biggest lever.

Cervical mucus, BBT and LH tests together give the clearest picture. One alone is a hint; together they're a forecast.

A typical TTC cycle

  1. Day 1–5: period

Reset. Restock LH tests. Folic acid 400mcg daily (5mg if diabetic/epileptic).

  2. Day 6–10: prep

Cervical mucus starts to change. Start watching.

  3. Day 10–16: fertile window

Egg-white mucus = peak fertility. Aim to have sex every 1–2 days.

  4. Day 17–28: luteal

BBT stays high if you ovulated. Test 12+ days after suspected ovulation.

Symptoms you might notice

Egg-white cervical mucus

Stretchy, clear — the most reliable fertility sign you can see.

BBT shift

Temperature rises ~0.2°C the day after ovulation and stays up.

LH surge

Ovulation usually 24–36h after a positive LH test.

Implantation spotting

Light pink/brown spotting 6–12 days after ovulation. Common but not universal.

Self-care that actually helps

Folic acid + vitamin D

From at least 3 months before trying.

Sleep and stress matter

Both directly affect ovulation and sperm quality.

Don't forget him/them

Sperm health matters as much as egg health. Loose underwear, less alcohol, no hot baths before TTC.

Limit alcohol, ditch smoking

Both reduce fertility on both sides.

When to see a clinician

Same week

  • · 12+ months trying under 35
  • · 6+ months trying 35+
  • · Severe pelvic pain
  • · Bleeding between periods

Worth a chat

  • · Cycles outside 21–35 days
  • · Painful sex
  • · Suspected endometriosis or PCOS

Questions to ask your doctor

  • Can we run baseline fertility bloods (AMH, FSH, LH, TSH, prolactin)?
  • Should my partner have a semen analysis?
  • When would referral to fertility services be appropriate?

Myths vs facts

Myth: You should lie still for an hour after sex.

Truth: Sperm reach the cervix within minutes. Stand up, no impact.

Myth: You're 'too stressed' to conceive.

Truth: Stress matters but isn't the only factor. Don't add guilt.

Myth: Miscarriage is rare.

Truth: 1 in 5 known pregnancies end in miscarriage. It's almost never your fault.

Quick FAQs

How long should we try before seeing someone?

12 months under 35; 6 months 35+; sooner if cycles are irregular or there's a known issue.

Can I test before my period?

Yes — modern tests work from ~10 days after ovulation, but a first-morning test on the day you expect your period is most reliable.
