The vulva is everything you can see from the outside. The vagina is the internal canal. They are not the same word and using them interchangeably makes it harder to describe symptoms accurately — including to a clinician.

Mons pubis

The soft, fatty pad of tissue over the pubic bone, covered in pubic hair after puberty.

What it does

Cushions the pubic bone during sex and impact.
Pubic hair reduces friction and traps scent compounds.

What can go wrong

Ingrown hairs and folliculitis after shaving or waxing — usually harmless, occasionally infected.
Persistent itching that doesn't settle deserves a look, not another razor.
